- Don’t just blindly follow rules, do what you believe is right. FICO’s Explainable Machine Learning Challenge asks participants to build a black box machine learning model for credit risk prediction, and afterwards explain how the model works. Instead of following the competition’s rules, one team used an interpretable model instead of a black box model, arguing that interpretable models do not, per default, come at the cost of predictive performance. They created a nice visualization tool which explains the model’s predicted credit default risk for any particular instance.
